UM Renegade Duty Ace, Duty S Now Slated For 2019 Launch

The delay is due to the government’s ruling that all motorcycles above 125cc will need to be equipped with ABS post January 2019
UM Motorcycles has announced that it has delayed the launch of its entry-level cruisers, the Rengade Duty Ace and Duty S. The two bikes, which were showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and was slated to go on sale in September this year, will now hit showrooms in the first quarter of 2019. The delayed launch is due to the government’s mandate of equipping every motorcycle with an engine displacement above 125cc with ABS.
Equipping bikes with ABS is no easy task and it’s probably what is causing the delay in the production process of both motorcycles. In addition to this, the company will now be forced to localise more parts from Indian manufacturers to keep costs in check.
“There has been a lag in the production of the Duty Ace and Duty S, owing to the recently introduced government regulations for ABS to be included on all motorcycles from January 2019 onwards. In addition to this, we are sourcing most of our parts for the two motorcycles from India to ensure the motorcycles are priced competitively,” said Rajeev Mishra, CEO, UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt Ltd.
The Renegade Duty Ace and Duty S are powered by an all-new 230cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which is good for 18PS and 20Nm. Although UM Motorcycles had announced the prices of the Duty S (Rs 1.1 lakh) and Duty Ace (Rs 1.29 lakh, both ex-showroom) back at the Auto Expo, expect both bikes to become a bit more expensive due to the inclusion of ABS.

Renault Modus Engine & Transmission
The Modus will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre petrol power-unit delivers a peak power of 75bhp, while the 1.2-litre diesel powertrain offers a maximum power output of 89bhp. The Renault Modus hatchback.
*Disclaimer: The date of launch is tentative and purely based on the information received from OEMs. Autoportal will not be responsible for any discrepancy and delay with the launch dates.
Renault Modus Interior
The solid body build and good interior make the Renault Modus a perfect urban family car. Having a length of 3874mm and high ground clearance, the Modus will probably be the longest hatchback after the Honda Jazz. This hatchback is quite spacious from inside that can accommodate five passengers without any squeezing effect.

VOLKSWAGEN- UP
The Volkswagen Up! hatchback that is sold in Europe is the three door model. What will head to India however, is the five door version with increased wheelbase and improved cabin space to suit the needs and demand of a typical Indian family. Under the hood, expect to see a 1.0-litre petrol engine that is able to produce close to 75PS of max power. A small diesel engine could also be used to power the Up! hatchback in the diesel frenzied Indian market. The details of the diesel powerplant however, is sketchy at the moment. The Up!’s small engine does not require a large cooling intake and therefore, the car has ditched the grille and instead, opted for a plain vanilla black band that runs between the headlamps. At the back, there are the vertical taillights with an outer glass cover. Overall, the Volkswagen Up! weighs 930kg, making it as lighter as the Hyundai i10 and the Honda Brio.
The engine is not really meant for people who red line and drive, it delivers decent power while burning minimal fuel, a perfect thing for regular city running. With its compact dimensions, light controls and easy handling, it does a good job as a city car. Gearbox is expected to be butter smooth and a delight to use with a light clutch for relaxed stop-go driving in traffic. NVH levels are pretty good and vibes are very few. The steering wheel offers decent feedback, it’s light and easy to operate at low speeds and weighs up nicely as the speed increases. Ground clearance is adequate and the bottom stays clear of the worst of bumps. Like other models from the company, it will also get an efficient braking and suspension mechanism, which keeps it well balanced and stable at all times.
Expected Price:
3.00 – 5.00 Lakh
Expected Launch Date: Jan 2019 - Jun 2019
